Did someone say skincare?

Today let’s talk about skincare. More specifically what I’m currently using and my current routine.

Lately I haven’t been wearing makeup. I still love doing my face and drooling over new products and watching fellow beauty lovers get glam, but I just haven’t been in the mood. I have been up-keeping my skincare though!

For the past couple months, I’ve been trying out a few brands who are new to me but probably staples for other.

My Daily Routine

  1. Cleanse
  2. Tone
  3. Serums
  4. Oils
  5. Moisturizer/ SPF

To cleanse I’ve been using Pixi Skintreats Rose Cream Cleanser. At first my skin did not know how to react to this. Typically, products that are great for all skin types but have a formulation for those with sensitive skin tend to make my normal/dry skin type react in an odd way. I didn’t break out or anything but there was a slight tingle when I first started using this product. Now, 4 months later, I have no issues and my skin feels clean, soft and supple after each wash. I use this product twice a day.

To tone I have been using First Aid Beauty’s Facial Radiance Pads. These facial pads help to exfoliate, tone and brighten the skin. I love how this product isn’t harsh and has no scent. I like the convenience of these pads; I don’t have to look through my toners or find some cotton pads to use them. And honestly, I only use 1 pad each time so I feel like I’m not wasting cotton pads and getting my moneys worth.

So, when I went to esthetics school, I learned of these wonderful boosters called serums! Serums are concentrated liquid ingredients for the skin designed to penetrate and treat various skin conditions. I currently use the Pixi Hydration Milky Serum and Sweet Chef Kale + Vitamin B Serum Shot.  The milky serum is great for all skin types. Its goal is to revitalize and restore dehydrated skin. Same can be said for the kale + vitamin B serum. I have dry/normal skin, so I love anything hydrating.

Last year I started dabbling with facial oils. In school I learned about and used various oils on clients such as olive oil. They are great for moisturizing the skin some have been enriched with vitamins or naturally consist of vitamins that help boost the skins health. I currently use Elemis Pro-Collagen Rose Facial Oil. I like it because it leaves my skin soft and supple. I can notice a difference in the elasticity of my skin since I’ve been using it. The subtle rose scent is pleasant as well.

The final step in my skincare routine is applying moisturizer. Really my last step should be applying SPF but I prefer a moisturizer that already has SPF in it so I can keep my daily routine short and sweet. My current moisturizer does not have SPF in it though. I am currently using Sweet Chef Superfood + Vitamins Moisture Boost.  Now this product initially was going to end up just sitting on my vanity or getting donated to a friend because it set my face on fire. Not literally but that’s the sensation that would take over my face after applying this product UNTIL I put my esthetic knowledge to use and checked out the ingredients. Sometimes you’re not necessarily allergic to a product. In some cases, there is simply a chemical reaction going on, hence the burning sensation. In my case upon further inspection of the ingredients I realized the niacinamide in this product was by chance reacting to one of my serums. See I would apply this product after my serum but before my facial oil. With research and trial and error I realized I can wear this product I just need something to balance out that niacinamide which when mixed with another agent can become rather irritating to the skin. To avoid this I started mixing my moisturizer with my facial oil, Viola!  No more burning. Seems like this moisturizer could’ve used a smidge more of a carrier oil. It is a wonderful moisturizer nonetheless I have noticed a difference in my skin since using it. I glow, my skin is radiant.

Now that we have gone over my daily skincare routine for the past 4 months see anything you would try? Have any products that you’re currently using that you think I should try or look into?
